Community Crayons....to share or not to share....

If you use community crayons, how do you store them? What does the container look like? What is your procedure for getting them passed out and picked up and where do you store them?

I have baskets, but I think they are too deep....I have a cart, it is easy for me to put them out for them, but something is just not quite right...I would love to know what you are using!

  2. I use to community share...but now I use school tool boxes. I had to change when our district went to an adopted school supply list and each child had to use ONLY the supplies that were sent in for him/her.

I wish our district would lighten up on this policy because I prefer the sharing method.

When we did do community supplies, I would use those containers that you could find at the dollar tree that were somewhat square, had a handle, and three divided spaces. On one side the space was the length of the container and the other side was divided into two spaces. One small and one larger. The large side would hold boxes of crayons with the child's name on them (until the boxes fell apart, then I would just dump the crayons). The two smaller sides would house pencils (in a cup), scissors (in a cup) and glue sticks. I would just leave these containers out on the tables all day. This method seemed to work fine for me.

    I hope this helps you.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. We have used plastic soap boxes..they hold 16-24 very nicely. I have also used frosting containers as well.

  4. Thanks Mrs. Greene!
I went to the $ Tree and bought all of those containers that they had!
THey have the cups (hot glued) in place for pencils and dry erase and scissors, but I decided this year that have a box on your desk to keep stuff in, is causing more distraction for them. (And for me) I have quite a few "fidgeters" this year....normally noise does not get to me, but this year- something is definitely different.

It is Sunday and I am here in the classroom.....google the new eval system for Tenn and you will see why ...lol...thanks again!
I will let you know how it works for us!
